What should I expect at my consultation?

During your first consultation, expect your Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist to ask a lot questions. This allows us to gain a sound understanding of your history and symptoms and the different aspects of your life that may be affecting your condition and health generally. A physical assessment of your condition comes next and depending on your individual needs this may include:

  • Posture, joint and functional movement assessment.

  • Assessment of the myofascial system.

  • Pelvic floor examination (internal and external) to assess functional tone and activation of pelvic floor muscles and pelvic organ prolapse presence. An internal assessment is often very helpful in diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor conditions. However, it's not essential and your physiotherapist will discuss what is involved and all the options during your consultation.

We'll then discuss with you the different treatment options that are available and tailor a plan that is individual to you. We work closely with specialists, and if we feel further input from another health professional (for example, your GP, Urologist, Gynecologist, Colorectal Specialist, Dietician, or Psychologist) would be beneficial, we can arrange this referral for you.
